Types of Knowledge Exchange

Every institution has its own definition of Knowledge Exchange (KE) and at Essex it includes:

  • Contract and collaborative research
  • Consultancy
  • Continuing Professional Development (CPD) provision
  • Research partnerships with industry funded by Innovate UK and other Research Councils (e.g. Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs), thematic funding calls, SMART Grants and Accelerated Knowledge Transfer (AKT) projects)
  • Commercialisation of research outputs via licensing and spinouts
  • Evaluation Services
  • Industry-funded studentships

KE isn’t restricted to any research area or discipline. There are opportunities for academics and researchers to participate in knowledge exchange across all areas of the University, at any career stage.

KE projects are supported across a range of industry partners, as well as charities and NGOs, local authorities, and health care providers.

KE empowers researchers to build strong relationships beyond the University and contribute to projects making a meaningful difference to our society, environment, and economy.
