The Ready for Success project has developed a series of pre-arrival preparation programmes available through Open Essex and a bank of study skills courses for current students on Moodle.
Students can enrol and learn at their own pace, working through a range of topics tailored to their stage of learning. We work with departments across the University to identify common skill gaps and target the development of new content to expand our offer to students.
Current students can enrol and explore our bank of study skills learning resources on the Moodle Skills@Essex course.
Skills@Essex study skills courses can be used in module delivery, assignment feedback, and as part of the student support offer at the University that tutors can signpost to. For example, directing students to the section on Effective Presentations when setting a presentation assignment, or directing a student to the Academic Integrity section within feedback when marking their assessment.
We work closely with the Skills for Success Team and the Library to develop high quality content and to ensure our resources include signposting to other academic support available to students at the University.
Skills@Essex is a growing resource, and we need input from departments to ensure we are developing the resources that your students need. We welcome academic input, whether that be sharing content already available within departments to a wider student audience, therefore reducing duplication across the University and reducing staff workload, by creating new skills content, or by identifying common skills gaps to be targeted.
We encourage staff to include a link to Skills@Essex in course Moodle pages to provide effective signposting to the support available to students.
