Advancement Team
Advancement consists of three outward-facing teams, Stakeholder Engagement & Events, Alumni Relations and Philanthropy. These teams help to promote the University and its interests to a range of key stakeholders, including former students and staff, current and prospective donors, and key local and sectoral decision-makers.
Stakeholder Engagement & Events
The Stakeholder Engagement & Events team has two main purposes. The team is responsible for managing and co-ordinating a range of events across the University. We lead on a portfolio of cross institutional events including public lectures, openings of new centres and the Vice-Chancellor's Annual Meeting. We support and liaise with various members of the University to ensure the logistics of an event runs smoothly and all preparations before are in hand.
As well as events, we also co-ordinate the institutions approach to engaging with external stakeholders, helping to build and maintain relationships. We manage relationships with key stakeholder groups such as the University Court and work to ensure that all stakeholders are considered and engaged in University events.

Stakeholder Engagement & Events
Alumni Relations
The Alumni Relations team stewards more than 130,000 Essex alumni in over 150 countries. Our alumni community includes nearly 2,000 alumni volunteers who support student recruitment, careers, departments and more, and over 2,500 alumni who give philanthropic support.
We manage the alumni database and records of alumni consent for communications on behalf of the university, and engage with the alumni audience through e-mail, social media and an events and volunteering programme. We support colleagues across the University by providing reports on alumni destinations and graduate stories for marketing purposes, and we engage alumni in bespoke activities to support recruitment and career support for current students.

Alumni Team
Philanthropy
The Philanthropy Team oversees all aspects of the University’s charitable fundraising including from individuals, trusts and foundations, corporates and other organisations e.g. National Lottery. We are here to support academics and Professional Services colleagues to secure funds in support of their research/projects. This includes identifying potential donors, supporting the development and submission of funding proposals and bids, cultivation activities and stewarding donors as and when funding is secured.
We also manage the University’s relationship with high-level, strategic funders to ensure a co-ordinated approach for cultivation, applications and stewardship.
