Advancement consists of two outward-facing teams, Alumni Relations and Philanthropy. These teams help to promote the University and its interests to a range of key stakeholders, including former students and staff, current and prospective donors, and key local and sectoral decision-makers.
Recent achievements by our staff include the most successful fundraising appeal in the history of the Essex Fund, and our new-look and well-received alumni magazine 'Essex Effect'.
Contact us to find out more about how we can help you connect with each other – or if you can help the University and our current students. We’re here to help, we like hearing from you – and we want your feedback!
Want to visit the Colchester campus – perhaps as part of a reunion? We have a small group of student ambassadors who can give visiting alumni guided tours. They normally take about an hour and usually take place on weekdays. Please email us to enquire or book.
We’ve put together a list of some of the questions we get asked the most, so have a look through just in case yours is one of them.

Our University was built on a vision that our people, and our work, could change the world for the better. Essex would be freer and more daring than the rest. This founding ideology remains at the heart of Essex. With the help of alumni, staff and friends we have built an institution that is known for its excellence in research and excellence in education, for its bold people and for its hunger to make a difference.
Philanthropic support is a crucial part of the Essex spirit, from educating the next generation of talent to, state-of-the-art facilities and campus activities.
